Honors Program "Mental Health Panel" showcases Ramapo's resources
for Ramapo Record
The Honors Program held their annual Mental Health Panel on Thursday, Feb. 13. The event took place at 7 p.m. in Ramapo’s Alumni Lounges.
The event included presentations from multiple organizations and offices on campus, a meditation demonstration, and a panel with mental health professionals.
“About half of all adults, more specifically 46.4 percent will be treated for or encounter a mental health disorder at some point during their lifetime,” Angelina Farallo, an Honors student who made the opening remarks to the event said. These statistics are from Mental Health First Aid USA.
The professionals that gave advice to Honors students on the panel included Professor Mary Starke, the Mindfulness Center’s Carol Bowman, and Jude Elysee from Counseling Services.
Resources were given to every student in attendance at the end of the event. This included a list of events that the Mindfulness Center has planned for this semester as well as resources from the Counseling Center.
“I thought the speakers were really informative,” Leana Hacopian, Honors Program student director said after the event. “I feel like they were really involved, and they truly made the panel.”
