Men's volleyball matches are postponed due to coronavirus

for Ramapo News

In the Campus Communication on Coronavirus message sent to all students and faculty on Thursday, March 5, Ramapo College issued the following statement:

“Overnight, we also came to understand that a student at Yeshiva University in New York, New York tested positive for COVID-19. Ramapo College’s Men’s Volleyball team hosted the Yeshiva University Men’s Volleyball team on Sunday, March 1 for a game at the Bradley Center.

“The Yeshiva University patient is not a member of their volleyball team and has had no known contact with the Yeshiva University players. Today, the Associate Director of Health Services received support from the Bergen County Department of Health. We learned that the Ramapo College volleyball players, coaches, and spectators at the March 1 game are at no risk since they never came in contact with the patient from Yeshiva University. Yeshiva University plays in our volleyball conference, so will continue to monitor the situation closely and be ready to take action should the situation need.”

This statement refers to the Skyline tri-match in which Ramapo hosted to compete against SUNY Purchase and Yeshiva University on Sunday, March 1. Ramapo recorded two victories in this match against both colleges. The tri-match improved the team’s totals to an 11-7 overall with a 4-0 in the conference.

Since this tri-match, the Roadrunners have improved to a 14-8 overall with a 7-0 in conference action. They are currently on a two-game win streak, but it is hard to say when this streak will continue.

Currently, the men’s volleyball team’s last two matches have been postponed. These games included a home match against St. Joseph’s College - Brooklyn on Tuesday, March 10 as well as an away game in New York against Yeshiva University on Wednesday, March 11.

Additionally, the team’s home match against the College of Mount Saint Vincent that was intended to occur on March 25 has been cancelled. All other matches are yet to be determined if they will still take place.
