Ramapo's Women's Basketball Take the Lead This Season

Ramapo’s women’s basketball started their season strong with an 80-58 win against John Jay College. This away match, being the first of the regular season, makes the Roadrunners undefeated while John Jay holds an overall 0-1.
The team was led by both junior center Alie Wickersheim and freshman guard Bridget Cahill. Each lady collected 21 points, yet senior center Jessica Repasy closely followed by adding 17 points towards the Ramapo victory.
Regarding assists, senior guard Stacey Porzl led the team with five. Wickersheim lead the way to the win with nine rebounds, and Repasy added eight. The Roadrunners were strong in steals as well with Porzl and senior guard Abbegail Whildin seized two steals each.
Ramapo shot 30-64 (47%) from the court alongside 12-16 (75%) from the free-throw line. John Jay shot 20-55 (36%) from the court and 13-19 (68%) from the line in comparison.
The game went back and forth with each team scoring one after the other. It was not until Wickersheim’s run and jump to score with 0:58 left in the first quarter for the Roadrunners to claim the lead, 21-14.
The Bloodhounds had a hard fight throughout the match, but it was not enough: the Roadrunners maintained this lead for the entirety of the game.
The first quarter ended with Ramapo leading, 23-19. The second quarter was even more brutal for John Jay as Ramapo then went on to hold an even stronger 15-point lead, 40-25. The second quarter included two free throws made by sophomore guard Sarah Minchin, and this quarter proved that the Roadrunners had complete offensive control.
The Roadrunners maintained a steady pace in the third quarter, and when the sound of the buzzer filled the Bloodhounds’ court, the season opener came to an end with an opening non-conference win, 80-58.
John Jay had notable leaders of their team. All'aha Albright led John Jay with 19 points, and Nyasha Howard scored 13.
The next match will be this Wednesday, Nov. 13 where Ramapo’s women’s basketball team will take on the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, New York. This will be the Dolphins’ first game of the regular season.
